National Accreditation for Course in Horse Dentistry, the First in Australia!

The Equine Dental Association of Australia has finally gained the national accreditation for the Certificate IV in Work Practices for Equine Dental Technicians. This course has been offered over the last ten years through the University of Melbourne (Glenormiston Campus) and more recently by Racing Victoria Limited Education and Training Centre at Flemington. The Course is the first in Australia to achieve such a high level of academic recognition and was only possible with extensive consultation and the hard work of many horse industry representatives.

RVL is the Registered Training Organisation registered to deliver the course at 400 Epsom Road, Flemington. Training is provided in conjunction with the University of Melbourne, Institute of Land and Food Resources and accredited members of the EDAA. Course details can be found on the RVL website www.racingvictoria.net.au or by calling Betty Hui on 03 9258 4332.

Graduates of the Course continue to contribute to the horse industry with competent horsemanship, and deliver humane and professional dental maintenance to all breeds of horses. The success has been demonstrated by the fact that some graduates operate their business on a global basis.

The course length is approximately 15 to 18 months. Lectures, field trips, practicums and extensive supervised industry experience prepare the trainee dental technician for life as their own boss. A nationally recognised certificate is issued upon completion of the course. The course offers a genuine opportunity for interested horse people to establish their own business with excellent grounding in all aspects of equine dentistry.

Dental Technicians who are currently practising can also have their existing skills and knowledge recognised through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process in order to gain the Certificate IV in Work Practices for Equine Dental Technicians.
